Transformations By Carrie Personal Trainer Carrie Carmichael Addresses One of the Nation’s Biggest Fitness Concerns for San Antonians

SAN ANTONIO, TX (PRWEB) August 27, 2005

San Antonio Personal Trainer Carrie Carmichael of Transformations by Carrie advises that the percentage of Americans who suffer from obesity is growing in just about every state, with the current trend being the result of apathy, poor diet choices and a lack of concern for fitness.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released data that showed that the percentage of obese adults for 2002-04 stood at 22.7 percent nationally. The percentage for the previous cycle, 2001-03, was 22 percent.

The report said the states with the highest percentage of obese adults are Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana and Tennessee and the states with the lowest percentage of obese adults are Colorado, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont and Montana.

While Carmichael was optimistic that Texas as not on the list of states that are growing in the percentage of obesity, she was concerned that Texas did not make the list of states who were on the lower percentile either.

“Obesity and lack of fitness is not just a situation of a beauty or cosmetic issue, lack of fitness, cardio health and obesity is growing and it’s going to cost taxpayers more dollars regardless of where you live in terms of health care. It is also alarming due to the fact that good health is something that we owe to ourselves, our families and children and our futures,” said Carmichael.

Carmichael advised that part of the solution lies in how the government should confront obesity. Carmichael thinks that in the face of the popular health care debates in government that our leaders should, “…engage in more activity on many issues such as school lunch programs be more closely monitored, that the use of public lands and parks be required to have more opportunities for enjoyable fitness activities and that individuals that are on government provided health care and Medicaid get access to fitness opportunities that could be subsidized by the government instead of money lost on the big debates over health care.”

“Inactivity, poor nutrition, apathy and subsequent poor health is becoming an epidemic in this country and sadly, the target age group of this issue seems to becoming younger and younger. We need to deal with it, head on.” she said.

Many tire of the call for more government action on obesity. Many in the industry and private business section think that free-market are the answer to the problem, as opposed to government intervention. Carmichael agrees on both ideas. “I think that the responsibility that lies with fitness professionals is a viable option to some our problems, but there also needs to be coverage on all fronts, especially with regards to spreading the message of the health risks of obesity and the provision for opportunities and incentives for our country to become more responsible in the areas of good health and fitness. I also think that fitness professionals bear a responsibility to provide the people they serve with reality based options, such as programs that lead to changes in behavior, not quick fixes, and nutrition advice that is sensible…food and ideas that are tasty and pleasant to our satisfaction from food has a much higher probability for success than crash diets, fads and programs that get your body out of balance.”

Carmichael and her group of trainers with Transformations by Carrie are putting their money where their mouth is. Carmichael reported that in the growing demand for fitness professionals, the demand is also growing for nutritional advice that works. To answer this need, Carmichael is expanding her staff and her services to make healthy recipes that provide nutritionally sound alternatives to popular foods.

“After much thought, I realized one simple thing about nutrition beyond just the ingredients and nutrients…if it tastes bad or does not satisfy the basic need that good food provides, I won’t eat it, so why would any of my clients?” Carmichael said.

Carmichael said that her native Texas is “the king of great food” and that because of that; it becomes easy to ignore fitness and nutrition and focus on the great Texas cuisine. “With all of the great foods, different cultures and styles that we have in our great State, eating is not only enjoyable, it is never boring.”

Transformations by Carrie is preparing to kick off specialized recipes for entrees, breakfast foods and snacks that not only taste great, but will provide for sound, day to day nutrition that will help change a person’s behavior by making the transition to healthier eating more comfortable and sensible.

Carmichael grinned when she said, “After a lot of consideration and experimentation with foods that I love, We have developed alternatives to types of food that are nutritionally sound and very tasty…not only entrees that the whole family can eat, but even snacks, desserts, milkshakes and alternatives to alcoholic beverages.”

In addition to being a champion NPC amateur bodybuilder, personal trainer and sports nutritionist, Carrie Carmichael is striving to be a different type of fitness professional. “Helping someone make a change in their life that will benefit their family and their overall health is the ultimate satisfaction.”

If you want a real burner of a workout, have fitness questions or if you just want a good meal that you don’t have to fear the consequences of, Carrie can be contacted in San Antonio, Texas or on the web at http://www.transformationsbycarrie.com.

Volunteer Center of Madison County Joins Forces with other agencies to prepare youth in disaster response during Disaster Preparedness Month

Huntsville, AL (PRWEB) October 1, 2007

The Volunteer Center of Madison County in Huntsville, AL recruited dozens of volunteers for three sessions of “Be Ready Camp”, a weeklong disaster-preparedness program for sixth-graders held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) during September, which is Disaster Preparedness Month. Be Ready Camp was created by the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the Alabama Department of Homeland Security, in conjunction with the Madison County Emergency Management Agency and the USSRC. The program is an abridged, “child-friendly” version of Community Emergency Response Team Training. The goal of the camp is for students to be able to help themselves, their families and their neighbors for three days after a major disaster.

According to Pam Menefee, The Center’s Volunteer Program Manager and Director of the Language Bank, last year’s Be Ready Camp was so popular that two more sessions were added this year. Students were bused in for the three camps from three different regions of the state – north, south and central – and were housed at the USSRC.

During their training, students studied a wide variety of subjects, including basic first-aid and triage, light search-and-rescue, fire suppression, terrorism threat identification and handling hazardous materials. “They basically live and breathe disaster preparedness for a whole week,” said Menefee.

The camps culminate after dinner on the final evening with a mock disaster. Campers have to set up an incident command system and begin making decisions on disaster containment and victim rescue and triage. They have to put out fires, find victims in settings including water and crashed planes and helicopters, stabilize victims and arrange for emergency transport. The operation commanders are “shadowed” by adult disaster professionals, who don’t tell them what to do but will help them get back on track if they start to lose their way.

Firefighters, police personnel and local ambulance companies are all part of the exercise. “Campers can actually call in a helicopter for rescue if they deem it necessary,” Menefee said. The Red Cross provides a disaster truck to make sure participants have water and food for the duration of the mock disaster.

“It takes about 200 volunteers to pull this off,” said Menefee. “It’s very realistic for the campers.” Besides the many “victims” needed, professional makeup artists are on hand. “We recruited a lot of volunteers for this event, and the organizers didn’t turn a single person away. And everybody learned something by participating.”

The students leave camp with a kit filled with bandages, a hard hat, gloves and other disaster-preparedness items, and the know-how to create a disaster kit for their own home.

The Volunteer Center of Madison County is the premier connection between volunteers and community needs. We partner with the community to mobilize volunteers and provide solutions to local challenges. We build the capacity of partner agencies – United Way and Combined Federal Campaign – to involve and manage volunteers and to address local needs through volunteering. Created in 1969 as a clearing-house to link new volunteers with non-profit organizations, the Volunteer Center believes that only people can solve community problems.

U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review Name Belmont Abbey College as One of the Best in Southeast

U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review Name Belmont Abbey College as One of the Best in Southeast

BELMONT, NC (PRWEB) August 28, 2005

According to U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review, Belmont Abbey College is one of the best colleges in the Southeast.

U.S. News and World Report released its annual rankings for 2006 this week, revealing Belmont Abbey College has climbed in the rankings – standing in the top tier for the second consecutive year as one of the best comprehensive colleges in the Southeast offering bachelor’s degrees.

This year, U.S. News and World Report ranked Belmont Abbey 27th – putting the liberal arts College in the top tier out of a total of 105 Southern comprehensive colleges and universities, both public and private. In 2005, Belmont Abbey College was ranked 32nd.

According to the magazine, Belmont Abbey College ranks first in North Carolina for having the highest proportion of classes under 20 (second in the Southeast) among comprehensive colleges.

“We are extremely pleased to be ranked among the top colleges in the Southeast by U.S. News and The Princeton Review,” says Belmont Abbey College President Dr. William K. Thierfelder. “Our continued success reflects our commitment to the ideals of excellence and virtue so that in all things God may be glorified.”

The Princeton Review also announced this week that Belmont Abbey College stands out as one of 140 colleges and universities it has named to its Best Schools in the Southeast list.

This year, The Princeton Review gathered student opinion data from 110,000 students at a total of 646 schools and is currently featuring its findings on the web (PrincetonReview.com) and in its 2006 edition of “The Best 361 Colleges” (Random House / Princeton Review).

“One of the many things I like about the Abbey is the small class size,” says political science major, Stephanie Garcia. “The classroom allows us to develop a one-on-one relationship with professors, so it doesn’t feel like you’re just attending a lecture. Instead, each class is more like having a personal conversation with each professor. They make themselves readily available – whether it’s in the classroom, or during office hours, or by email. We always feel comfortable going to them with questions or for advice.”

Senior Angela Kisbey-Green agrees.

“The Abbey has a real family atmosphere,” says Green, a cross-country athlete and president of Tau Kappa Delta. “No matter who you are – you always feel comfortable. Even if you arrive and you don’t know anyone – the students, faculty and staff make you feel welcome. It makes it easier to do things – really come out of your shell – and put your leadership skills to the test.”

The Princeton Review includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee, as the Southeast Region for its Best Colleges list.

“All of the schools in this book are academically outstanding,” says Princeton Review author, Robert Franek. “But no school is best for all students. That’s why our book has 62 different ranking lists and campus feedback about the schools not reported elsewhere. We hope it will help college applicants and their parents decide which college is best for them.”

Ranked one of the best comprehensive colleges in the Southeast by U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review, Belmont Abbey College celebrates excellence and virtue steeped in its 129-year Catholic Benedictine heritage. The liberal arts College is home to students from over 34 states and 26 countries and welcomes everyone from any background or tradition committed to this vision of excellence and virtue. The campus consists of the College, the Monastery and the Abbey Basilica, which can be found on its sprawling 650 acres of picturesque landscape.

Just minutes from Charlotte, NC, the nation’s second largest banking center, Belmont Abbey College offers students numerous internship opportunities and career placement.

The College believes in development of the whole person – mind, body and spirit. By offering a wide array of clubs and activities including Division II athletics, theatre, publications, and study abroad, Belmont Abbey College invests in the personal growth of its students.

Founded in 1876, the College celebrates its heritage and is inspired by the Benedictine monastic tradition. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the College and Abbey Basilica greet thousands of visitors each year.

GoalQuest Launches UFindIt to Help First-Year Students Find Campus Resources and Advance Retention

April 25th, 2012 by admin

GoalQuest Launches UFindIt to Help First-Year Students Find Campus Resources and Advance Retention

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 8, 2007

GoalQuest, the Retention Division of Halyard Education Partners, today announced the launch of UFindIt™, an online-offline scavenger hunt and e-community that brings students together to win prizes for demonstrating their knowledge of important people, places and things on campus.

Styled as an interactive trivia challenge, UFindIt is part of GoalQuest FYRe™, a comprehensive interactive program that helps participants navigate college life while giving administrators powerful early alert tools to identify students at risk of attrition. The eight-week challenge is currently being used by more than 25 colleges and universities across the country.

As part of its FYRe retention program, GoalQuest works with staff at each school to create a combination of fun and informative questions in five categories: Fine Arts, Sports & Health, Science & Technology, Student Life, Bonus Trivia and “Get Up & Find It”─questions that require students to venture out of their residence halls. While some questions refer to pop culture and national trends, most relate to unique locations on each host campus, such as:

–What is the receptionist’s name in the Academic Resource Center?

–The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid is located in which hall?

–If eager to get involved in a community volunteer project, which office would you contact first?

–Which building houses a cafeteria, a post office and a wellness center?

–How many round columns stand at the entrance to the building that houses the math tutoring center?

–What is the least expensive shampoo at the University Supply Store?

“GoalQuest has certainly hit the mark in creating a comprehensive engagement tool that students find fun, even addictive, compelling them to learn about critical support services,” said Jennifer Benson Jones, director of academic retention at The University of Alabama. “Students learn about these physical places in a virtual medium, while also engaging in educational content that helps them gain confidence and comfort by assessing their own personal and academic progress. The tool includes real-time survey instruments to track students who may be an attrition risk.”

In order to participate in UFindIt, students must pass through the FYRe content portal, which includes feature articles, interactive self-tests and first-person videos on time management, health and wellness, student skills and exam prep, career planning, diversity and a range of other subjects that each participating school identifies as part of the development process. Students may also track their standings at any time by returning to the FYRe portal. The student at each school who has accumulated the most points at the end of the eight-week challenge receives a $ 300 American Express gift card, supplied to the school as part of the program.

“As GoalQuest continues to improve and expand FYRe to aid schools in their retention efforts, we are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance the experience of the students who use our programs,” said Tracy Howe, GoalQuest co-founder and executive vice president. “While our reporting tools give administrators a stream of timely intelligence, enticing offerings such as UFindIt ensure that students will return to the programs again and again. We immerse them in content and activities that truly improve their first-year experience and their chances of success.”

About GoalQuest:

GoalQuest (http://www.goalquest.com), the Retention Division of Halyard Education Partners, provides innovative solutions for colleges and universities to maximize recruiting, enrollment yield, retention, parent communication and advancement efforts. Purolator USA Chooses Raleigh-Durham as its Southeast Logistics Headquarters

Purolator USA Chooses Raleigh-Durham as its Southeast Logistics Headquarters

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 17, 2007

Purolator USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Canada’s largest small package and freight services company, has selected the Raleigh-Durham area for its southeast U.S. regional headquarters.

The new Raleigh-Durham hub will support Purolator USA (http://www.purolatorusa.com) customers from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee.

“Our recognized expertise and nation-wide coverage throughout Canada normally means fewer trans-border issues, quicker distribution and lower costs for our U.S. customers,” says Tammy Fairbanks, the newly appointed RDU branch manager for the company. “I’m excited about this opportunity to introduce these advantages to businesses shipping to Canada from North Carolina and other Southeast locations.”

Purolator USA offers a full range of services from overnight small packages to LTL (less than truck load) freight forwarding. In addition, Purolator USA now offers US domestic small package delivery, making it easier for customers to complete shipping by consolidating with a single freight forwarder.

Nationwide, Purolator USA has been growing rapidly and has doubled the size of its branch network during the past 12 months. The Raleigh-Durham/Southeast region location was selected because the Company already had some customers in the area, and research showed that the region overall accounts for a very significant amount of US-Canada trade.

In late 2007, the Raleigh Durham operation will move to a permanent location near the RDU airport that will house both administrative offices and a package consolidation area. Southeast customers are already being served from temporary facilities.

Before joining Purolator in 2006, Fairbanks had seven years of experience at UPS and four years with Fed Ex. “I was attracted to Purolator because of its focus on meeting customer needs and having the ability to build true customized solutions with our clients,” Fairbanks stated. “Although the Southeast branch is headquartered in Raleigh-Durham, we have staff throughout the entire region. We will announce a several major customers in the near future,” she noted.

About Purolator USA:

U.S. companies face many unique supply chain challenges when shipping to and from the Canadian market. Purolator USA, Inc (http://www.purolatorusa.com)., a subsidiary of Purolator Courier Ltd., Canada’s largest integrated distribution services company, specializes in the air and surface forwarding of small packages and freight shipments, customs brokerage and delivery to, from and within the North American market.

He photographed her on stage in 1979 at the 10th New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Forster believed the negatives of his Fitzgerald shoot had been destroyed in a fire 25 years ago. In October Forster discovered a set of some of the negatives in an envelope. His joy at discovering them propelled him into action, he matched images of other musical greats he had photographed over the years, and his latest one-man show was born.”

“Like most in the (New Orleans) metro area Forster’s losses following the storms were devastating. He lost the majority of his files, as the second story of his apartment complex caved into the first floor, with mold and water everywhere, his spirit could have easily been broken but he like many others, found strength to move forward…Forster found a new beginning and it is his hope that others will too.

HolyHipHop.com Enters Into Agreement With England-Based Fonedream For Distribution of ‘Holy Hip Hop Mobile’ Content Worldwide

Atlanta, Georgia/Lancaster, England (PRWEB) September 14, 2005

HolyHipHop.com announced today that it has entered into an Exclusive Agreement with England-Based Mobile Content Provider, Fonedream, for Global Distribution of Holy Hip Hop Mobile content for digital devices including but not limited to cell phones. The terms of the Agreement provide that Fonedream is responsible for Content Distribution and Fulfillment of Holy Hip Hop Mobile content world-wide; and HolyHipHop.com is responsible for marketing and promotion of Holy Hip Hop Mobile content world-wide.

Mobile Music Report Forecasts $ 11.6 Billion Market by 2010 Date: June, 2005 (62005). Just how big will the mobile music market be in 2010? Certainly, things will look a lot different than they do now, with a new market being shaped by beefier devices, faster delivery networks, surging interest and more robust batteries. That has most research groups asking just how high this market will rise, with Informa Telecoms and Media projecting an $ 11.3 billion market by 2010. Realtones will account for $ 6.8 billion of that total, outpacing polyphonic tones next year. Current ringtones sales, including both real and polyphonic tones, account for an estimated $ 4.9 billion this year according to the research.

“We have researched and watched the Holy Hip Hop movement surge within and outside of the United States over the past 24 months. The 14-34 prime Holy Hip Hop demographic is the same demographic of technology savvy heavy users of mobile devices and related digital technologies. The missing link is mobile content and that is where we believe that our exclusive partnership with HolyHipHop.com, its multiple label and prominent alliance partners will serve to fill this void for customers who want music, text and video content that inspires and enlightens on a global scale,” said Graham Baines, Managing Director of Fonedream.

“This strategic alliance with Fonedream sets the stage to complete an important step of an 8-year mission to globally proliferate Holy Hip Hop, as mobile devices rapidly become the primary personal communication and entertainment devices for individuals whether in Asia or Alabama, Australia or Alaska, London or Los Angeles, Nepal or New York to receive music, text and video content 24/7. The service will be marketed under the moniker ‘Holy Hip Hop Mobile’; and only Holy Hip Hop Ministers of the Gospel will be eligible for consideration. With God All Things are Possible. HolyHipHop.com remains focused and committed to the cause and advancing the Gospel worldwide by any means necessary,” said Abe Manear, Webmaster, HolyHipHop.com/CEO of FullEffects Digital Media.
