Southeastern Food Processors Launch First “Buy The South’s Best Foods” Celebration

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

The first and largest celebration of foods produced by its members, the Southeastern Food Processors Association (SFPA) will kick off “Buy The South’s Best Foods Month” with a variety of consumer-targeted events in May.

“We often take for granted the importance of agriculture and food processors in our daily lives,” explained SFPA President Tom Densmore. “Our celebration honors the role of the American farm, southern food processors, supermarkets and foodservice operations in bringing to American families healthy and nutritious food.”

The campaign is designed to build consumer awareness of food manufacturers of the Southeastern United States. The celebration will include full-page newspaper inserts in daily newspapers on May 10th and May 17th across the Southeast offering discount coupons on member products. In all, more than 96,000,000 coupons will be distributed during the two-week period. “Due to the current economy, coupon usage is up by as much as 10 percent in 2009,” Densmore explained. “The launch of the campaign’s coupon distribution will help southern families get more for their money.”

The campaign also includes a recipe contest that asks consumers to submit their favorite recipes using SFPA member products for a chance to win $ 500.

“A significant trend is the desire by consumers to know were there food is manufactured,” said Densmore, who is the Vice-President of Sales for Bost Distributing, the North Carolina manufacturer of Patterson’s and other southern brand products. “We want consumers to know that when they purchase one of our brands that they are supporting a southern food company that takes pride in the quality of the products they offer. By creating brand loyalty, we can preserve and grow jobs among our members and to the farm families who sell their crops to our members.”

The SFPA was formed in 1942 and includes some of America’s best loved brands, including: Bush Brothers Beans, Texas Pete® Hot Sauce and Hot Dog Chili, Margaret Holmes® Seasoned Vegetables, Dunbars® Roasted Peppers and Dromedary® Pimientos, Bruce Foods, Harvest Time Foods, Patterson’s, Moore’s Marinades, C.F. Sauer’s, Mount Olive, Sara Lee, Fleischmann’s Yeast, Golding Farms, Mancini and House Autry Mills.

Members of the non-profit organization represent thousands of jobs in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

“The path from the field to your dinner table comprises millions of jobs in farm, food processing, supermarket, transportation and restaurant operations,” Densmore said. “We hope that consumers will support those jobs by purchasing these great southern brands and telling their friends to do the same.”

The SFPA’s members also support careers in food and food technology by providing scholarships to major southern universities, such as North Carolina State University, Clemson University, University of Georgia, The University of Alabama, The University of Tennessee and University of Florida.

For more information on the celebration and to download participating member discount coupons or to learn more about entering the SFPA’s recipe contest online, visit http://www.buythesouthsbestfoods.com.

All-Natural Insect Repellant “Nutri Shield” Wins Award as Best Pick from Bestcovery.com

Nutritek Nutri Shield Insect Repellent Best Bug Repellent Winner: Third Best

Salem, OR (PRWEB) February 12, 2010

Nutri Shield® is unique among insect repellents in that it provides a high level of protection with an amazingly pleasing scent and feel on the skin and does not contain harsh chemicals but is instead made of simple, safe, natural ingredients. Nutri Shield’s formulation stands alone against the pack of other natural repellent which tend to rely on essential oils as their repellent base. Instead, Nutri Shield® formulation is based upon a specially prepared vegetable ingredient that has been well proven as a broad range pest repellent in agricultural applications.

The company President say’s the product has been thoroughly put to the test in real life applications worldwide and has been found to repel a surprising array of insect species including mosquitoes, no-see-ums (biting midges or sand flies), gnats, black flies, house flies, horse flies, and even Tse-tse fly a particularly hardy and ruthless predator. Nutri Shield® is also considered to be the best no-see-um repellent on the market according to customer reports. No-see-ums are also known as biting midges or sand flies that inflict a painful bite and are not believed to be repelled by DEET except at high concentrations of 60% or more. Nutri Shield® is safe on the whole family including adults, children, and toddlers.

Nutri Shield® is endorsed by America’s outdoor icon, bass fishing legend and founder of B.A.S.S. – Mr. Ray Scott. According to Ray Scott, “Nutri Shield is the one product that really works for me whether I’m in the woods of Alabama or the wilds of Canada.”. Mr. Scott is known to be very selective with endorsements, his motto is “It must be at least as good as the best and better than the rest”. An interesting bonus to anglers is that Nutri Shield® won’t melt equipment or fishing line and is in fact generally attractive to fish! Typically, insect repellents repel fish, but oddly Nutri Shield® can double as an effective fish attractant. Double blind field tests have shown that the product can significantly increase fish landings when applied to fishing lures in both fresh and salt water.

Nutri Shield® is available at BassPro Shops, Gander Mountain Stores, Fred Meyers, and many natural products stores throughout the USA. Natural products retailers can order the product through Select Nutrition. The company website WWW.NOINSECTS.NET will soon offer consumers the opportunity to purchase online. Nutritek Inc is a formulator and marketer of exempt natural bio-pesticides, beneficial microbes for soil and water applications, and safe insect repellents. Nutri Shield® also comes in concentrated versions designed for application in lawn and garden care, parks and recreation, professional horticulture and agriculture, livestock management, golf course management, foodservice areas, pets, and more.

The company President recently said, “The company is in an aggressive expansion mode. Anyone using the products are typically blown away by how effective, pleasant, and easy to use they are. We are currently getting prepared to welcome qualified investors and we will begin formally seeking funding sometime around September.” To learn more about Nutritek Inc and Nutri Shield® you can visit their website at WWW.NUTRITEKINC.COM

And The Oscar For Best College Campus Goes To ‘Silver Screen’ Edition Is Second In Series Of Wisechoice Guides

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 12, 2010

Among this year’s list of Academy Award nominees for Best Picture are “Avatar,” “The Hurt Locker” and “The Blind Side”– each featuring locations as diverse as their subject matter. Would Oscar-winning films like “Good Will Hunting,” “A Beautiful Mind” and “The Graduate” have found the same success had their cinematographers not featured some of the nation’s most prestigious and attractive college campuses?

“Selecting a movie location, much like choosing a college, is a difficult process that requires research, site visits and finding locales that best fit the personality of the film,” says WiseChoice president Richard Taylor. “High-school seniors face similar challenges when choosing a prospective college, except they don’t have the breadth and depth of resources to help them simplify the process and identify the right schools for them—until now.”

WiseChoice (http://www.wisechoice.com), a comprehensive online college guidance solution, today released its WiseChoice Guide to the Silver Screen, a list of ten college campuses that have appeared in a leading role (as themselves) in a host of movies ranging from box-office favorites like “Spider Man” and “Hitch” (Columbia University) to smaller cinematic gems like “Rudy” (University of Notre Dame), “Breaking Away” (Indiana University) and “Mona Lisa Smile” (Wellesley College).

“Leading Role” College Campuses

Columbia University – President Obama’s alma mater and one of the world’s top academic and research institutions, Columbia has served as the backdrop for numerous films including “Spider Man,” “Marathon Man” and “Hitch.”
Harvard University – Consistently ranked as one of the best Ivy League universities and set in picturesque New England, it’s no surprise Harvard has starred in such popular films as “Legally Blonde,” “Love Story” and “With Honors.”
Indiana University – Home of the Hoosiers and 24 national championships, this “Big Ten” school appeared in the 1979 Oscar-winning picture “Breaking Away.”
Louisiana State University – The LSU Tigers have graduated numerous student-athletes to professional sports teams, making it the ideal setting for “Everybody’s All American,” a movie covering 25 years in the life of a college football hero.
Marshall University – Named after John Marshall, former Chief Justice of the United States, this West Virginia school was the genuine locale for “We Are Marshall,” a true, inspiring tale of a plane crash that claimed the lives of members of the university’s football team and its struggle to rebound.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – A world-class learning institution with an appetite for big, intractable and complicated problems, MIT was undeniably the best location to film “Good Will Hunting,” winner of two Academy Awards (Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor).
University of Chicago – Featured in the opening scene of “When Harry Met Sally,” the University of Chicago sets the stage for this Oscar-nominated (Best Original Screenplay) comedy of two characters who are confronted with the question, “Can a man and woman just be friends?”
University of Notre Dame – Chronicling the life of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, who harbored dreams of playing football at the University of Notre Dame despite significant obstacles, “Rudy” captures the home and spirit of the Fighting Irish.
University of Southern California – Selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, “The Graduate,” winner of the Best Director Oscar, portrayed USC admirably.
Wellesley College – This prestigious school counts Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, producer/screenwriter Nora Ephron and ABC World News anchor Diane Sawyer among its alumnae, making it a model location for the coming-of-age film, “Mona Lisa Smile.”

Supporting Role College Campuses

While featured in major motion pictures, these schools played a supporting role, serving as stand-ins for other higher education institutions.

Agnes Scott College – Best Picture nominee “The Blind Side” (Movie Campus: University of Mississippi) and “The Four Seasons” (Movie Campus: unnamed) were both filmed at this Georgia gem.
Fairleigh Dickinson University, Fordham University and Manhattan College – All three higher-learning institutions played a part in the Oscar-winner, “A Beautiful Mind” (Movie Campus: Princeton University).
UCLA and University of Wisconsin – These campuses got no respect in “Back to School,” which opted for the fictitious name Grand Lakes University.
Union College – Located in Schenectady, NY, this liberal arts school was the stand in for an unnamed campus in the Oscar-winning “The Way We Were.”
University of Oregon – As the backdrop for “Animal House,” one of the most popular college movies of all time, the University of Oregon is referred to as the fictional Faber College.
University of Southern California – Although most of the Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump” takes place in Alabama, scenes at the University of Alabama actually were filmed at USC.
Yale University – This private Ivy League school appeared in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” as fictional Marshall College.

Davis, Athens, and Ann Arbor Top ApartmentRatings.com List of Best College Towns for Renters

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 3, 2010

ApartmentRatings.com, the leading website for user reviews of apartments around the United States, today released rankings of renter satisfaction for the 200 largest college towns and college cities in the country.

Topping the list is Davis, Calif., home to the University of California-Davis, a highly regarded public institution located in Northern California’s Central Valley. UC-Davis’s 30,000 students enjoy the comforts of a university town (population 64,000) and Mediterranean climate, as well as close access to the state capital of Sacramento (11 miles) and cosmopolitan San Francisco (72 miles). Off-campus housing is plentiful and relatively inexpensive when compared to many major metropolitan areas.

Other top-rated college towns include:

Athens, Ga. (University of Georgia)

Ann Arbor, Mich. (University of Michigan)

Amherst , Mass. (University of Massachusetts)

Albany, N.Y. (State University of New York & Excelsior College)

Tuscaloosa, Ala. (University of Alabama)

Madison, Wis. (University of Wisconsin)

Knoxville, Tenn. (University of Tennessee)

Tucson, Ariz. (University of Arizona)

The full list of the 85 college towns included in the rankings can be viewed at http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/2010collegetownrankings.

“Congratulations to Davis and the other cities that made the top of the rankings,” said Michael Egan, general manager of ApartmentRatings.com. “There are a lot of factors that go into a student’s decision when choosing a college. Our goal was to use the vast wealth of ApartmentRatings data to help students and their families identify those institutions that are located in cities with well-regarded off-campus apartment opportunities.”

Davis’ ranking was based on reviews associated with dozens of different apartment complexes in the city.

“Renters’ reviews are building-specific, and though apartments in Davis get their share of complaints, consistently positive feedback for things like safety, noise and upkeep put Davis on top,” added Egan.

At the bottom of the list was Cambridge, Mass., home of America’s oldest and most famous place of higher learning: Harvard University.

The satisfaction scores were tabulated from thousands of user-submitted ratings provided in 2009 for apartment buildings in the cities and towns of the 100 largest four-year colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to overall satisfaction, users on ApartmentRatings.com can rate their rental experience on a number of specific factors including noise, safety and maintenance, as well as leave comments about their own experience living in the buildings.

About ApartmentRatings.com

Launched in 2000, ApartmentRatings.com is the largest online rating community for rental housing. The goal of ApartmentRatings is to help renters make an informed renting decision. As an independent resource for renters, ApartmentRatings’ reviews provide a realistic insider’s perspective of apartment communities because they are in renters’ own words. The site is among the top five most-visited apartment hunting sites in the world.

Youth Villages Named One of Top 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For 2010

Youth Villages Named One of Top 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For 2010

Memphis, TN (Vocus) April 8, 2010

The NonProfit Times and Best Companies Group have named Youth Villages as one of the 50 Best Nonprofit Organizations to Work For in the United States. One of the largest providers of services to troubled children and their families in the country, Youth Villages was founded in Memphis in 1986. This year, 2,300 counselors, teachers and staff will help more than 15,000 children with serious emotional and behavioral problems and their families.

Counselors work from 64 locations in 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The annual survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in the non-profit sector. The 2010 list of 50 Best Nonprofit Organizations to Work For were chosen in a two-part process. The primary part, which made up 75 percent of the evaluation, consisted of a randomized employee survey. The survey allowed employees to rank their organizations in eight key areas including leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, work environment, relationship with supervisor and pay/benefits. The second part consisted of evaluating each organization’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics.

Youth Villages and the American Heart Association were the only two nonprofits in the top 50 with more than 2,000 employees.

Other organizations honored include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Lance Armstrong Foundation and Keep America Beautiful Inc. The complete list is published in The NonProfit Times’ April 2010 issue.

“This is a great honor for Youth Villages,” said Patrick W. Lawler, chief executive officer. “Our employees are on the front lines every day, helping children who have sometimes suffered from abuse and neglect and have very challenging mental health issues. On our residential campuses, they are responsible for meeting children’s needs 24 hours a day; through our in-home and community programs, counselors respond at all hours to families in crisis. It’s inspiring to know they gave our organization such top ratings.

“Our consistently high success rates and continual improvements in services to young people are a result of the hard work of the Youth Villages team. We’ve strived to provide our employees with a supportive work environment and culture, good benefits, the latest technology and comprehensive training. This award shows that we’re on the right track, but we always are driven to make Youth Villages even better.”

Youth Villages is a major employer of college graduates in the fields of social work, psychology and counseling in the areas it serves. Nearly a hundred college students will be participating in the organization’s internship program this year.

“We expect that this honor will increase traffic to our career website,” Lawler said. “If you are passionate about helping children and families, Youth Villages definitely is a great place to work.”

Youth Villages is a private nonprofit organization that offers a wide array of programs, including intensive in-home services, residential treatment, foster care and adoption, transitional living services, mentoring and crisis services. Youth Villages’ focus on strengthening families consistently produces an 80 percent success rate of children living successfully at home or in a home-like setting two years after completing a Youth Villages program. Youth Villages has been recognized by Harvard Business School and U.S. News & World Report, and was identified by The White House in 2009 as one of the nation’s most promising results-oriented nonprofit organizations. CardRatings.com Ranks Best and Worst States for Consumer Credit: Why It Matters

CardRatings.com Ranks Best and Worst States for Consumer Credit: Why It Matters

Foster City, CA (PRWEB) July 20, 2011

The housing bust and sustained economic slowdown have blemished the financial prospects of many Americans, but the damage hasn’t hit all states evenly. CardRatings.com releases its rankings of best and worst states for credit, which reveals the current condition of credit in each state’s population. Entrepreneurs, business owners and individuals are all affected by the overall state of credit in their locales and can incorporate the results of this ranking when making location decisions.

To determine state rankings, CardRatings.com analyzed indicators directly related to individual credit usage and repayment behavior (average credit score, credit card delinquency rates and home foreclosure rates) as well as broad economic health indicators such as unemployment and personal bankruptcy rates.

The 10 best states for credit may be of interest to job seekers, entrepreneurs and business owners. The states on the “best” list have high average credit scores and low unemployment, foreclosure, bankruptcy and credit card delinquency rates.

According to this CardRatings.com analysis, the 10 best states for credit are:

1. North Dakota

2. Vermont

3. South Dakota

4. Nebraska

5. Montana

6. Wyoming

7. Iowa

8. Pennsylvania

9. Alaska

10. Minnesota

In contrast, job seekers, entrepreneurs and business owners may find that the 10 worst states for credit are economically challenging places to live and work. Some factors that land states on the 10 worst states for credit list, such as high foreclosure rates, may indicate opportunities or even investment bargains over a long time horizon. However, placement among the 10 worst states for credit is a signal of bleak economic prospects.

The 10 worst states for credit, with the top spot being the worst state for credit, are:

1. Nevada

2. Georgia

3. California

4. Florida

5. Arizona

6. Alabama

7. Tennessee

8. Michigan

9. Mississippi

10. Idaho

Though credit availability is determined by individual financial situation and not geographic location, these rankings are meant to show areas of relatively stronger or weaker credit environments.

Commentary on these states and access to the full 50-state ranking can be found at CardRatings.com’s article, “10 best states for credit.”

Named Best in Home Storage Solutions “A Better Closet” Launches Website

At aBetterCloset.net home owners in Alabama and the Florida panhandle can learn more about custom, whole-home storage solutions or request a FREE initial consultation

Helena, Alabama (PRWEB) August 24, 2011

While most home owners dream of making the most of their storage space, clients of A Better Closet make those dreams a “5 Star” rated reality.

The whole-home storage solution company just launched ABetterCloset.net to showcase its custom designs, built-ins and accessories which enhance the appearance, functioning, efficiency – and value – of new and existing homes. All this comes on the heels of A Better Closet being named the best provider of quality, selection, style – and service – by clients who have given A Better Closet solid “5 Star” ratings.

“Our goal is to maximize the potential and value of our clients’ homes,” says Owner Robert Duff. “We utilize every inch of available space to achieve that. Our customer feedback is phenomenal and it’s definitely worth celebrating. As a family-owned and run business, we couldn’t be happier.”

According to HGTV, Duff is on to something. Through FrontDoor.com, HGTV’s home-improvement experts identify closet remodels as a “maximum value” project that pays big dividends for home owners by increasing livability and eventual asking price. In today’s economy, that is particularly good news.

“If you have trouble finding things because of overstuffed, disorganized closets,” notes the FrontDoor staff, “it’s time for an upgrade. Not only are cluttered closets inconvenient, they also show potential home buyers that you don’t have enough space.”

Adequate, well-organized closets and storage space often top home buyers’ lists of necessary features.

“The master suite and kitchen are the most important parts of the house, so invest in nice closets in these areas. Custom shelves, drawer organizers and shoe racks are just a few ways to control clutter and increase your home’s value.”

Duff relies on 20+ years of experience, finely-honed design skills and a tightly-knit, dedicated staff of professional builders to help home owners realize unforeseen benefits – performing what clients call “closet miracles” which make them wish they had called A Better Closet even sooner.

“Whether a client wants to make the most of a walk-in closet, kitchen pantry or home office we strive to make day-to-day living easier for them while adding lasting value to their home,” adds Duff. “It’s the kind of value that greatly enhances their quality of life. We also back our work with a 100% guarantee which we uphold for the life of each home we work on.”

As if that weren’t impressive enough, A Better Closet also helps clients quickly check a whopping 33% of the projects outlined in the interior design and architecture site Freshome’s “15 Best Ways to Increase the Value of Your Home” off of their to-do lists. Work can often be completed in a matter of days.

Related items on Freshome’s list include: Building value into kitchen cabinets, updating master bedroom suites, adding spa-like features and fixtures to bathrooms, making garages more user-friendly and ensuring that closets and other storage areas are fully functional and well-utilized.

Consumers can visit aBetterCloset.net to learn more or to schedule a FREE in-home consultation.

Birmingham, Alabama New Home Community Wins Best in American Living Award

Birmingham, Alabama New Home Community Wins Best in American Living Award

Ross Bridge Neighborhood

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) February 7, 2011

Ross Bridge, located in Hoover, Alabama was named a winner of the 2010 Best in American Living Awards (BALA). Ross Bridge won the platinum in the category of best community.

The BALA program, which is sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Design Committee, recognizes exceptional design and uses the example of these trend-setting designs to educate builders and improve residential design in all aspects of the housing industry.

The BALA winners were announced during the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.

“The BALAs are the most prestigious awards of their kind, setting the benchmark for innovations in residential home design,” said Mike Nagel, 2010 Design Committee Chairman and Partner, MAW Chicago LLC. “We are proud to have a long history of honoring those who set the bar high by encouraging creativity, originality and imagination in our industry.”

In addition to this prestigious new home community award, Ross Bridge’s Dorothy Tayloe won the Silver Award for Best Sales Manager and the Community won the Gold Award for Best Signage.

Ross Bridge reflects the latest design trends in Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND), and aptly demonstrates that coastal areas and the big cities of the Northeast are no longer the only domain for TND and mixed-use communities. It has taken the decades-old “planned unit development resort community” concept and infused it with the latest in traditional neighborhood development design, creating a walkable community with a unique sense of place and a vibrant community spirit.

Now in its 28th year, the Best in American Living Awards program celebrates the most creative and innovative builders, designers, land planners and interior designers in the nation. Every year, BALA winners redefine excellence for the residential building industry. Major BALA categories include home design, room design and community development.

For additional information about BALA and a listing of all the 2010 award winners, visit “2010 BALA Portfolio,” an online publication that includes a review of design trends, and scores of images. Additional Information about the BALA program can be found at http://www.nahb.org/BALA.
