Southeastern Food Processors Launch First “Buy The South’s Best Foods” Celebration

The first and largest celebration of foods produced by its members, the Southeastern Food Processors Association (SFPA) will kick off “Buy The South’s Best Foods Month” with a variety of consumer-targeted events in May.

“We often take for granted the importance of agriculture and food processors in our daily lives,” explained SFPA President Tom Densmore. “Our celebration honors the role of the American farm, southern food processors, supermarkets and foodservice operations in bringing to American families healthy and nutritious food.”

The campaign is designed to build consumer awareness of food manufacturers of the Southeastern United States. The celebration will include full-page newspaper inserts in daily newspapers on May 10th and May 17th across the Southeast offering discount coupons on member products. In all, more than 96,000,000 coupons will be distributed during the two-week period. “Due to the current economy, coupon usage is up by as much as 10 percent in 2009,” Densmore explained. “The launch of the campaign’s coupon distribution will help southern families get more for their money.”

The campaign also includes a recipe contest that asks consumers to submit their favorite recipes using SFPA member products for a chance to win $ 500.

“A significant trend is the desire by consumers to know were there food is manufactured,” said Densmore, who is the Vice-President of Sales for Bost Distributing, the North Carolina manufacturer of Patterson’s and other southern brand products. “We want consumers to know that when they purchase one of our brands that they are supporting a southern food company that takes pride in the quality of the products they offer. By creating brand loyalty, we can preserve and grow jobs among our members and to the farm families who sell their crops to our members.”

The SFPA was formed in 1942 and includes some of America’s best loved brands, including: Bush Brothers Beans, Texas Pete® Hot Sauce and Hot Dog Chili, Margaret Holmes® Seasoned Vegetables, Dunbars® Roasted Peppers and Dromedary® Pimientos, Bruce Foods, Harvest Time Foods, Patterson’s, Moore’s Marinades, C.F. Sauer’s, Mount Olive, Sara Lee, Fleischmann’s Yeast, Golding Farms, Mancini and House Autry Mills.

Members of the non-profit organization represent thousands of jobs in Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.
