New Look, New Brand for Mobile’s Battle House and Riverview Plaza Hotels

Mobile, AL (PRWEB) May 11, 2007

As Mobile, Alabama, undergoes a major downtown revitalization, this year the city will welcome renovated hotels flying Marriott’s Renaissance brand flags. The Battle House Hotel and Riverview Plaza Hotel, owned by Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), will officially become Renaissance hotels after renovations are complete.

“With Mobile’s downtown renaissance, we are pleased to welcome the Battle House and Riverview Plaza to the Renaissance family,” said Michael Murphy, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Renaissance Hotels. “Having seen plans for both properties, I can see great things are happening along Mobile Bay. We look forward to seeing the final renovations and raising the Renaissance flags.”

The Riverview Plaza renovation is expected to cost $ 32 million and is scheduled to be complete by summer 2007. The Battle House total projects are estimated at $ 220 million.

“The Retirement Systems of Alabama are dramatically changing the look and feel of downtown Mobile,” said Steve Solberg, COO of PCH Hotels and Resorts. “The newest chapter in their exciting story is the renovations of both the Battle House and Riverview Plaza Hotels and affiliating with the Renaissance Brands. Internationally, Renaissance hotels have amazing interiors, street restaurants and are known for providing savvy service.”

The 238-room Battle House Hotel will be a blend of the old and new and will reopen in May 2007. The original eight-story hotel, which first opened in 1852, will be connected to the sleek, state-of-the-art RSA Battle House Hotel, the tallest building in Alabama and along the Gulf Coast, built in recognition of the economic and high tech needs of the future. Boasting the most elegant ballroom in Mobile history, this hotel will feature 40,000 sq. ft. of unique and flexible meeting and pre-function space. The ornate Crystal Ballroom is the showpiece of the hotel, with its grand staircase entryway and cathedral ceilings located just off of the bustling fully-renovated Grand Lobby. The Grand Ballroom is located between the hotel and RSA Tower, ideal for a small Alabama convention and features spectacular architectural details.

The Battle House Hotel in Mobile, Alabama, will feature an array of dining options, from the 100-seat Trellis Room, with its awe-inspiring cathedral ceilings and upscale show kitchen. Diners can enjoy regional and continental cuisine. The Royal Street Lounge will be the perfect place to end a busy day of sightseeing or meetings, with the best of southern libations and afternoon and evening snacks. The Battle House promises to be the place to see and be seen in Mobile.

Adjacent to the Mobile Convention Center and with stunning views of Mobile Bay and surrounding vistas, the Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Al. has 375 beautifully appointed rooms and 32,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. While the hotel remains open, renovations are underway and are scheduled to be completed by summer 2007. Once complete, the exterior profile will compliment the RSA Battle House Tower and feature an architecturally enhanced top.

The ideal Mobile conference hotel is connected to the Mobile Convention Center via skywalks, allowing guests easy access to meetings during their stay. The state-of-the-art convention center, which has won a number of architectural awards for its distinctive design, has a 100,000 sq. ft. Exhibit Hall, a 15,000 sq. ft. Grand Ballroom and 16 meeting rooms.

For dining, the Riverview Café & Grill offers classic Gulf Coast cuisine. Overlooking Mobile Bay, the inviting décor offers a casual, relaxing atmosphere perfect for any occasion. The Riverview Café & Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A new Lobby Bar will be a natural gathering place for both the business and leisure guests.

“Both the Riverview Plaza and Battle House will live up to the exceptional Renaissance reputation,” said Solberg. “Both hotels will provide Mobilians and visiting tourists with gracious hospitality, amazing cuisine, magical meeting spaces and an overall whimsical experience.”

Don’t Settle for Same Old Flooring – Take a Look at Some New Choices

Don’t Settle for Same Old Flooring – Take a Look at Some New Choices

Anniston, AL (PRWEB) November 21, 2006

The world of flooring choices is changing and there are numerous products that take a different slant on covering your floor. One of those is cork flooring. Cork used as a floor covering? “Yes indeed! It is an environmentally correct product that is warm in the winter, comfortable and resilient. For those allergy sufferers, it is hypoallergenic and inherently resistant to molds, mildews and common pests,” says Jeff Blackburn, Technical Advisor at AffordaFloors.com. “Cork contains no VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) and is thus a healthy, non-toxic choice for flooring.” For the designer in you, it is a different look. Something you don’t find in every home, but is quite attractive in design.

Another new choice is a hardwood floor that is not nailed or glued down. It has a genuine hardwood surface, but the structure underneath is much like laminate flooring. “It clicks together and floats over your subfloor. So you can have a genuine hardwood floor that you can easily install yourself without the messy glue or nails,” states Blackburn.

Even though it has been available for a number of years, it is just now taking a good hold in sales and many people are becoming aware of bamboo as a floor covering. Blackburn says “This is another material that is a “green” product. Like cork, it is a very environmentally friendly flooring. Where it can take trees up to fifty years to grow back after being harvested, bamboo grows back in just two years. It is a very durable floor that adds an exotic look to any room.” And bamboo now comes in a number of different styles, one of the more popular being strand woven bamboo flooring, which adds a bit of a different look to the bamboo.

Another area to look for a more exotic look is hardwood flooring. Instead of the traditional oak wood, why not check out some of the exotic species that are now readily available and quite affordable. Species such as brazilian walnut (also know as tigerwood or Ipe), Rosewood or cabreuva to add a rich, warm look to a room. “There are so many exotic species available at very reasonable prices now there is no reason not too consider using them for a very special look in your home,” says Blackburn. It’s the same for laminate flooring. Laminates have an incredible variety of styles and colors now that look like the genuine hardwood, even the exotic ones.

So why settle for the same old styles that you see in every home? Choices abound in the sheer variety of styles and colors making it a real treat to design a living space that will get plenty of compliments from family and friends. And the nice part is that they are only a mouse click away!

A Look Inside Catfish Tournaments – The Best Catfish Tournaments In The USA

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Catfish tournaments are a great way to get out there with other anglers, have a good time catfish fishing, and maybe take home a cash prize or trophy. Most catfish tournaments are held every year in various locations throughout the States. Some are regional, and some are nationwide. Usually, you have to qualify first in local tournaments before you can go on to the big ones, but it’s not too tough to qualify. It just takes some good catfishing technique and a little luck. You can usually qualify through your local catfish club. Here are some of the nation’s most exciting and most popular catfish fishing tournaments.

Cabela’s King Kat Tournament

Cabela’s King Kat Tournament is held every year, and gives anglers a chance to show their stuff. Anglers also have a chance to win the $60,000 prize, which ain’t too shabby either. This is the first ever “classic” competitive catfish angling tournament, and it is sponsored by rod maker Cabela.

There are two ways to get into the King Kat Tournament. One is to qualify through a catfish club that participates in the tournament. The other is to fish in one of the King Kat National Qualifying Tournaments that are held all over the country in various locations during the spring and summer months.

The prizes include cash, boats and trailers to those who catch the biggest fish. But, let’s be honest, the real thrill is to just get out there with all the other pro’s and catch those fish! If you’d like more information, check out the King Kat Tournament website at www.kingkatusa.com.

Southern Catfishermen Association Catfish Trail

The SCA is an organization devoted to promoting the sport of catfishing, and they have tournaments all over the country every year. The tournaments are held all over the south, especially in Tennessee and Alabama, where some of the biggest cats can be found. The entry fee is $125 for each boat, and the grand prize for the biggest fish is $1,000. There are different divisions that you can enter. A basic membership to the SCA is only $20 a year, but entry into the Classic Tournament is $200. For more information on the SCA Catfish Trail, check out the SCA website at www.southerncats.com.

American Catfish Anglers Tournament Series

You might have heard of this one. Word gets around about the A.C.A.T.S. The organization started eight years ago in the great catfish fishing lands of Oklahoma, and now they have tournaments there and in several other states. A.C.A.T.S. tournaments bring catfish anglers from all around, and it’s a great way to get together with other anglers and have a good time. There are also prizes, of course. You can find more information about the tournaments, as well as information about joining an A.C.A.T.S. chapter, on their website, www.catfishangler.com.

Dan Eggertsen is a fishing researcher and enthusiast who is committed to providing the best catfish fishing information possible. Get more information on Catfish Tournaments In The USA here:
